The capsule wardrobe, a Dubai dream.

By focusing on essential, versatile pieces that can be worn in a variety of ways, a capsule wardrobe can help you save money, save space and encourages more conscious consumption.

The Moiety aims to challenge the notion that exceptional style and a conscious approach to fashion must come with a high price tag. A capsule wardrobe also helps to remove the stresses of having ‘nothing to wear’, and allows you to invest in higher quality items that will ultimately last longer.

Viktoria & Woods is a brand stocked in The Moiety, as seen above, who are proud to highlight that the greater part of their designs are made in Australia. “We value sustainable textiles and manufacturing methods that leave a lighter footprint on the planet, a philosophy we are committed to.” Their aim is to create effortless wardrobe staples with a pared-back modern feel.

In chemistry, a moiety refers to a part or portion of a molecule that can be separated and exists independently. “In the context of the brand, it is interpreted as a curated selection of clothing that represents exclusivity, affordability and distinction.” A capsule wardrobe is an antidote to fast fashion and impersonal shopping experiences.

More than that, the brand champions the idea of “Conscious Alchemy”, where every piece of clothing is a blend of beauty, sustainability, and ethical production and will only offer brands that also fit within their ethos.

One of their brands Zulu & Zephyr, The Moiety’s latest addition, has been a proud member of 1% for the Planet since 2020. With a focus on a more sustainable future too, 81% of their ready to wear, sport and swimwear categories are sewn in socially compliant factories, where fair treatment and worker welfare is paramount, and are supporting their non-compliant factories in their ventures towards compliance. Global Recycled Standard certified recycled fibres are also used throughout their collections to reduce the use of virgin synthetic fabrications.

Eco-Conscious Activewear from H&M

Blending fashion with function and fitness, H&M has announced that its latest activewear collection is made from totally eco-friendly, sustainable materials. Now we know H&M are great when it comes to encouraging conscious consumerism with their sought-after conscious collection, it’s great to see it transpire across more of the clothing in-store. “Inspired by nature and positive, strong women” the collection revolves around the theme of ‘In it for the long run’ …as we all want our most-washed items to last.

The collection includes; tights, sports bras, hoodies and tops for training, running and yoga. With a precedence on nature and sustainability, the prints and the colours feature Earthy greens, blacks and beiges. So where’s the Eco element? The clothes are made with recycled polyester and elastane and for an added bonus, are made for our quick gym-tan-laundry turnaround too, with quick-dry and seamless finishings.

“By bringing together the functional and feminine, the aim is to give customers a stylish, conscious sports collection. And not just through the fabrics – we utilized a new knitting technique that creates seamless garments while using less yarn or fabric waste. Blending function with sustainable thinking and fashion in this way is the way forward,” says Petra Smeds, head designer of sportswear.

H&M: Holding Fast Fashion Accountable

I love it when great minds come together and the team at one of the most famous high street brands in the world, H&M, are certainly on the right track. It is estimated that more than 1 million tonnes of textiles are thrown away every year, most of which ends up in landfill sites. So sustainable textiles have to be the future. H&M Conscious Collection

Launching their latest CONSCIOUS EXCLUSIVE collection, H&M are without a doubt pushing forward in this industry, with 20% of their pieces now made from more sustainable materials, with the aim each year to increase this share. One of their key elements in this is BIONIC; a recycled polyester made from plastic shoreline waste. H&M notes that they are one of the world’s biggest users of recycled polyester and one of the biggest buyers of organic cotton. Their goal is ultimately to have their cotton 100% sustainably sourced by 2020. H&M Conscious Exclusive

This year, supermodel and philanthropist Natalia Vodianova starred in their campaign too, so don’t think that the pieces are in any way lacking style, just because they use a different material…
